Annual Training Opportunities
Buckeye Council Training Schedule: The full year's training program schdule all in one form!
Baden Powell Institute: Typically held the first Saturday in February. A great training day for all levels of experience in adult leadership. Includes a great lunch, been held last few years at Kent-Stark Conference Center.
BSA Online Learning Center: Currently offering the Troop Committee Challenge, Boy Scout Fast Start, Youth Protection Guidelines Training, Safe Swim Defense, and Safety Afloat. All are needed and very helpful for both adult leaders and youth! All this can be accomplished in the comfort of your own home! Each person needs to set up their own log-in and password to access. Please provide copies of training certificates to our Troop Advancement Chair to record.
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT): Typically held the first full week in June after school lets out. Our Troop pays $50 towards attendance, plus the Scout will get a $50 discount to summer camp - meaning the real cost is only $50 for the week! In-Residence training at Camp McKinley, the adult Scouters that perform this training are some of our best. Incredible week for the Scouts to attend. Preliminary meeting in May, need to be 13 and 1st Class, with Scoutmaster approval. Also has some follow-up tasks due by September with a recognition meeting celebrating the completion of the program in October.
Wood Badge Training: Typically held every other year, this is advanced leader training. Very much worth the time and effort to take. Numerous dates involved, make sure you can attend all sessions. Some follow-up committments required.
Guide to Safe Scouting: Most recent version of Scouting's Guide to Safe Scouting. Updated annually. Required reference material for adult leaders.
