Good Turn at Canton Calvary Mission 2009

We had 13 scouts attend our troop service project at Canton Calvary Mission on Dec 22nd.

We first went to the Akron Canton Regional Food bank where we made a donation and used the troop trailer to help transport 3,500 lbs of food to Canton Calvary Mission. The boys helped unload all of the food trailers, stocked the pantry and did some general cleaning.

We also helped organize a number of donations. First, we assembled Christmas treat plates and organized and match hat and glove donations.

Matt, Trevor and Evan served the mission staff Christmas dinner and helped clean-up afterwards.

We also made about 200 clean-up kits that put soap, shampoo and lotion donated by local hotels into baggies for easy distribution.

Front row (L to R):  Aaron, Will, Joel, Mitchell, T.J., Mark and Emma
Back row: Cody, Ben, Matt P., Trevor, Eric, Evan and Cory.

The group was a little boisterous, but very productive completing a long list of tasks provided by the mission. We learned from the managing director that the economy has affected their mission. Many people who had donated in the past cannot, or may be coming for help. She reminded the scouts that the faces looking for help are not the faces of the poor, but faces of mothers, fathers, aunts, and uncles… the faces of families.

A special thanks to Stephen Partridge and Glenn McDaniel for driving and helping to manage our rambunctious group of boys!
