Ski
Weekend (Feb. 24-26): We will be traveling to Peek 'n Peak in western New
York state for a fun weekend on the slopes. Watch for more details.
The permission slip will be posted soon.
Summer Camp (June 24-30):
The registration forms for
summer camp for both the scout and the adult leaders are now available.
The first Early Bird payment is due Feb. 14. Make sure to return the registration early to take advantage of the early bird discount.
Merit badge information will be posted when it is available.
Pipestone
Wood: Speaking of summer camp...the warm winter has given us a
great opportunity to get a head start on collecting Pipestone wood this
year. Now is the time to gather wood, before the poison ivy and
other ground cover begins to emerge. Click
hear to learn more about Pipestone wood.
OA
Elections (Feb. 28): We will hold our annual Order of the Arrow
(OA) elections at our meeting on February 28. For more than 90
years, the OA has recognized Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the
Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. Arrowmen are known for
maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting year-round and long
term camping, and providing cheerful service to others. OA service,
activities, adventures, and training for youth and adults are models of
quality leadership development and programming that enrich and help to
extend Scouting to America's youth.
Law
Merit Badge
(Apr. 6): Buckeye Council and the Stark County Bar Association are
offering the Law Merit Badge on April 6th. For more information class see the
registration form.
Scout
Sunday: A big "thank you" to everyone who came and helped us raise awareness of our
troop’s activities with the congregation of our
sponsoring institution. Our Scouts handed out bulletins at the beginning of
the service, lit candles, pass the offering plates, led a prayer, read
scripture and led a responsive
reading. Well done, guys.
Troop
Elections: Congratulations to Matt R on his election as our new SPL, and to
Will (ASPL), Eric (Troop Guide), Adam R (Quartermaster), Mitchell (PL) and Ben
(PL) for their election or appointment to key troop leadership positions.
We are counting on this group to lead us during the spring camping season and
through summer camp in June.
Our newest
Eagles:
Congratulations to Evan and Brian on passing their Eagle boards of
review.
The paperwork has been approved by the national BSA and they are the
52nd and 53rd Eagle Scouts from Troop
935. Well done, guys!
Medical Forms:
BSA National has once again revised its medical
form in 2011. The form consists of 4 parts: Parts A and B
are to be completed at least annually by participants in all Scouting
events. Part C is the physical exam that is required for participants in
any event that exceeds 72 consecutive hours, for all high-adventure base
participants, or when the nature of the activity is strenuous and
demanding. Part D is required to be reviewed by all participants of a
high-adventure program at one of the national high-adventure bases and
shared with the examining health-care provider before completing Part C.

2011-2012 Troop
Calendar: Another year is well under way, with activities that will
take us to a variety of locales in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. The
Google calendar at the bottom of this page has
been updated with our 2011-2012 event schedule. We've also
posted a PDF version that you can print and hang on your refrigerator.
New BSA
advancement requirements: A new edition of Boy Scout requirements released
in January 2010 includes revised requirements for all of the ranks, major
revisions to 5 merit badges, minor changes to 12 merit badges and the
requirements for a new Scuba Diving merit badge. If a Scout started work toward
a rank before January 1, 2010 using the requirements that were current before
January 1, 2010, he may complete THAT RANK ONLY using the old requirements.

Advancement page for details.
Upcoming Deadlines:
February 14 - 1st Summer Camp Early Bird Payment
Misc:
Homesickness:
This is a fantastic article from a past Scouting magazine issue
pertaining to dealing with homesickness. It gives a lot of good advice for
leaders and parents pertaining to how we should deal with it. Please pay
specific attention to the section titled 'Set up a no-call policy'. We have had
to deal with this issue frequently. This is a reason we do not allow cell phones
to be seen at campouts. While we can't control use inside a tent, we hope
parents will understand, support, and reinforce our position to your sons.
Not a Happy Camper
Welcome to the
latest iteration of the Troop 935 website! Take a look around; if something
isn't working right let us know. If you would like anything added, let us know
that as well. Hopefully, all of the forms you need are readily available in one
of the four headers on the left under 'Forms'. We have a few things to do here
yet, including adding more to our picture pages and try a password protection
area for family contact information, committee meeting minutes, Scoutmaster
reports, Scout account status, summer camp payment status by Scout, and other
things. For you 'old timers' out there, there are plenty of things that are
missing and gaps that need filled in, so please feel free to contribute or offer
missing details!
